Choosing Your Hens
For good egg production, opt for breeds known for laying, such as the Sussex, the Rhode Island Red, or the Marans. Count on approximately one hen per egg per day at peak season.
Setting Up the Coop
Plan for a sheltered, dry, and well-ventilated space with perches and nesting boxes (1 for every 4 hens). An outdoor run improves welfare and egg quality.
Feeding
A balanced diet (grains, protein, calcium) is essential. Always keep an eye on your feed stocks to avoid running out.
